Devon’s history and music are the inspiration for my presentations, which last around 45 minutes. They feature an historic Devon talk accompanied by piano, the tenor recorder, and poetry.

Devon Composers
I also offer a ‘Devon Composers’ presentation, with pre-recorded music, mainly featuring the Rev. Sabine Baring Gould and his collection of lost Devon and Cornwall folk songs, as well as two pieces as a live piano performance.
Valentine Themed Presentation
A celebration of this romantic festival with music and description of its historical background. I can present this either with live piano music or with recorded music if no piano is available at the venue.
Christmas Themed Presentations
There are 3 variations of this performance:
- The History of the Christmas Carol – Christmas music with CD. I describe the history of the Christmas carol including recent information on Exmoor’s lost Christmas carols, Christmas music, etc. I can give live performances of carols on the piano by request, with this presentation. This can also be given as a Zoom presentation with Powerpoint, including music.
- Christmas Traditions Around the World – describes the many and surprisingly varied ways the birth of Christ is celebrated. This is accompanied by a cosmopolitan medley of recorded music, or I can play live Christmas carols to fit the subject, if the venue has a piano.
- Famous Historical Christmas Events – this performance describes interesting and sometimes little known events from history which took place around the Christmas period. I will accompany the talk with music.
St. George’s Day/Shakespeare Themed Presentation
A celebration of English music, and a short talk on the life of Shakespeare and the legend of St George, illustrated with live piano or CD.
Halloween Themed Presentation
This performance describes the origins and aspects of Halloween, including the account of the Bideford Witches, illustrated with live piano or CD, a poem and live spoken rendition of a historic song.
The Life of Scott Joplin
Variety of Joplin’s best-known piano rags performed live on the piano, or via CD, with an accompanying talk of Scott Joplin’s fascinating life and times.
